According to press reports “Scooter” Libby has testified that Dick Cheney told him George Bush authorized the leaking of certain unnamed classified secrets to the press to support his assertions about the war in Iraq. Who classified these secrets and what the secrets were is unknown. While it is true that the President can declassify any document or information that was classified by the Executive Branch it is unlikely that any information relevant to the invasion of Iraq fell into this category.

Even if leaking this was narrowly legal (and I am yet to be convinced) the idea that the President of the United States should ever be authorized to plant stories in the media to support assertions, as yet unfounded, for invading a country without provocation is Unconstitutional on its face.

There is no law this man and his Administration won’t break to achieve its ends. Impeachment should only be the first step.
